Spy Wednesday Tenebrae for Holy Week

The Fellowship of St. Alban is having a 7 p.m. Holy Week Tenebrae prayer service at St. Cecilia’s church on Wednesday, April 17, also known as "Spy Wednesday," the day Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

The word "Tenebrae" come from the Latin for "darkness" and in this liturgy, the candles on the altar are gradually extinguished with each psalm and reading, until the last candle is out and the sanctuary is plunged in darkness. A loud clash of noise is made, which represents the agony of Creation at the moment of the Savior's death, when the earth shook and split the Temple veil in two.
